Renting the Centre

Relive the past in the unique setting offered by the Yukon Beringia Interpretive Centre. The ancient land of Beringia, home to giants like the woolly mammoth, giant short-faced bear, the ferocious scimitar cat and the First People, is mysterious and magical.

The Yukon Beringia Interpretive Centre is both informative and engaging, highlighting many aspects of a very distinct part of Yukon history.

The facility offers exclusive use for groups as large as 250, for events ranging from wedding receptions or ceremonies to business after-hours, lectures, seminars, tours and school group bookings.

Business Meetings & Business After-Hours
The Yukon Beringia Interpretive Centre is in the perfect location for entertaining out-of-town groups or as a gathering place for local business people. With a full range of audio/visual equipment and a 200-seat theatre, the Beringia Centre provides the perfect venue for meetings and presentations.

Special Events
Private dinners, award presentations and other events become more exciting when seated under the magnificent presence of a woolly mammoth. The Centre’s ice age exhibits are great conversation pieces and provide a unique backdrop when mingling with friends or colleagues. The Beringia Centre has tables and chairs available for the occasion.

Receptions
For any reception, whether a wedding, cocktail ball or a thematic party, the Beringia Centre offers a unique atmosphere and ample space. Many receptions have successfully been hosted in the facility.

Lectures & Seminars
The theatre with a wide variety of audio/visual equipment is available for multi-media presentations, lectures and seminars. The comfortable theatre encourages interaction between the audience and presenters. Other parts of the exhibit halls can be used to host smaller events or breakout sessions.

Location


The Yukon Beringia Interpretive Centre is located in Whitehorse at Mile 914 on the Alaska. Highway next to the Whitehorse International Airport and the Yukon Transportation Museum. The drive from downtown Whitehorse via the North Access (Two Mile Hill) or South Access (Robert Service Way) and the Alaska Highway takes less than 10 minutes.

Available Equipment
Theatre – A 200-seat theatre equipped with:

• Laptop (PC) and High Definition LCD projector for PowerPoint presentations. Bring your presentations on CD-Rom
• DVD, VHS (DVHS, SVHS), and Beta SP players
• Kodak carousel slide projector
• overhead projector
• three microphone options: podium microphone, cordless microphone and a lapel microphone
• podium

The renter is responsible to provide any additional equipment that may be required for the event.

Tables and Chairs – The Beringia Centre has 4 rectangular tables (1.5m x 76cm / 5’ x 2’6"); 2 larger rectangular tables (2.43m x 76cm / 8’ x 2’6"); 6 round tables (1.5m / 5’ diameter); and 5 smaller round tables (0.61m round / 2’ round). Plenty of floor space is available to set up the tables. The Beringia Centre also has 50 comfortable chairs available for events.

Cost
Included in the facility rental cost is the use of all equipment available in the facility. Centre staff will be on site to assist with the use of the facility.

If required the Centre can be closed for the public to host events at times that would fall into the regular hours of operation during the off-season (October - May).

Co-ordination
All proposed logistics, set-ups and delivery schedules must be reviewed and approved by the Beringia Centre Manager in advance. Contracts with vendors are solely between the Renter and the respective vendor. The Renter ensures that all vendors review and agree to comply with all requirements established by the Yukon Beringia Interpretive Centre. The Renter and/or vendor must provide any equipment required beyond what is available at the Beringia Centre.

Serving liquor requires any Renter, vendor, or caterer to hold a valid Government of Yukon Liquor License. Not-for-profit groups must apply for a Special Occasion Permit from the Yukon Liquor Corporation. Private groups must apply for a Reception Permit. Once these permits have been obtained the Beringia Centre will provide a letter of permission allowing the group to serve alcohol on the premises. Caterers who hold liquor licenses must ask the Yukon Liquor Corporation for permission to serve alcohol away from their regular location.

Download the Beringia Centre event booking form HERE and fax to (867) 667-8854. Upon receipt of the form the Beringia Centre will contact you to confirm your booking and make arrangements for your event.

Regulations

• Beringia Centre staff will be on site to help with the logistics of the event. Staffing is mandatory for all events.
• All decorations or set-up for the event must be approved in advance by the Beringia Centre Manager.
• Smoking is not permitted in the facility. Ashtrays are located outdoors if necessary.
• Clean-up has to be provided through the Renter and has to follow immediately after the event.
• Liabilities are ensued by the Renter, including cost of repairs, restoration, or replacement in the event of damage to the Centre, its equipment, or exhibits.
• The Yukon Beringia Interpretive Centre shall be held blameless for all claims arising out of the Renter’s use of the Centre’s property. The Renter assumes full responsibility for theft, loss, or damage to any property and equipment brought to the Centre by the Renter, subcontractors, vendors, or agents.
