The Great Stocking Experiment 9: Pulling out the Big Guns

Saturday December 7, 2024 – 12:30 pm to 3:30 pm

Okay, we get it—you’re skeptical. I mean, how many experiments do you need to run before you know that Santa doesn’t just visit homes on Christmas Eve, he visits museums too? We appreciate the sentiment it shows you’re paying attention. However, what if we told you that science is not so much about proving stuff, it is about ruling out possibilities.

Scientists come up with an idea they think might explain a natural phenomenon then they go full Batman on it. They pull out all their intellectual artillery and try to shoot it down. If, after the smoke clears, the idea still stands, it enjoys the highest accolades science can bestow—“this idea might hold water”. Not exactly glowing praise, but science is dispassionate that way. It has no stock in the results, or you can be pretty sure… it’s not science!

So here we are again. We’ve taken a few potshots at this one over the past 8 years and the Santa hypothesis continues to stand -the stockings have always been filled. So, what next? More rigorous testing, of course! More stockings, more decorations, and even tighter experimental parameters. Let’s see if the Santa hypothesis can stand up to another round!

Here’s how you can get involved with the experiment:

  1. Decorate a stocking at the Beringia Centre.
  2. Kick back and enjoy a holiday-themed movie after you decorate your stocking.
  3. Leave your stocking with us and see if Santa fills it with treats!
  4. Pick up your stocking on Saturday December 28, Sunday December 29, or Monday December 30 from 12 pm to 5 pm.

Regular admission applies. Free admission with a family pass.
