Facility Use and Rentals

Please note that during our summer operating season (May to September), rental availability is limited due to increased programming and visitor services. All rentals are subject to staff and facility availability.

ABOUT THE SPACE

Add a little (or a mammoth amount of) uniqueness to your events at the YBIC. We’re not your typical venue. Renting here grants you access to our public areas, including the grounds, exhibit halls, and theatre.

Due to the unique and sensitive nature of our exhibits, we have strict guidelines. Before booking, we strongly encourage potential renters to visit the space and familiarize with our guidelines. Our building contains irregular spaces with immovable exhibits that house many sensitive and priceless fossils.  Our space will not work for many event concepts.

Rental FAQ

Thinking about hosting an event at the Yukon Beringia Interpretive Centre (YBIC)? Here’s what you need to know.

Renting the YBIC costs $60 per hour with a minimum booking of 3 hours. Full payment is required immediately after the renter has completed their full cleanup. We accept cash, cheques, credit (American Express, Visa, Mastercard), and debit. Note: Rates are subject to change without notice.

When you rent our facility, you gain access to all public areas of the Centre, including the atrium, washrooms, exhibit halls, and theatre. We also provide chairs and folding tables at no additional charge, including:

  •  30 portable chairs
  • 10 folding tables (6ft)
  • 6 folding cocktail tables

However, we are purely a venue—we do not offer additional services like event setup, takedown, or cleaning. You are responsible for restoring the building to its original state of cleanliness after your event concludes.

Our facility can accommodate up to 200 people.  Please note the theatre itself has 192 seats with 2 wheelchair-accessible slots.

Yes, food and drinks are allowed, but due to the sensitive nature of our exhibits, there are several restrictions. Please inform us at the time of booking if you plan to serve food and/or drinks so we can advise on appropriate locations and guidelines.

Yes, you can serve alcohol, but it must be approved by YBIC management. As the renter, you’ll need to obtain the necessary permits from the Yukon Liquor Corporation. Additionally, you must secure General Liability Insurance for at least $1,000,000 per event, covering bodily injury, property damage, and host liquor liability. Proof of insurance must be reviewed by YBIC management before your event.

Our theatre control system is relatively easy to operate, but we do ask that you book a time to familiarize yourself with our system in advance of your event. For more complex or high-profile events, we recommend having your own audio-visual expert.

Our theatre audio/visual equipment includes:

  • Sony Laser projector and 16-foot wide screen
  • 1 Blu-ray player (Tascam BD-R2000)
  • 4 wireless Sennheiser microphones (1 lapel, 3 hand-held)
  • 1 podium microphone
  • Inputs for 4 additional wired microphones (renter must supply their own)
  • HDMI and VGA inputs for laptop computers
  • LED Stage lighting with presets
  • XLR media patch for recording audio feed

No, we don’t provide technical AV support, and we cannot guarantee the functionality of any of our equipment. The operation of our AV system is your sole responsibility. For more complex or high-profile events, we recommend hiring an audio-visual expert.

Yes, there are a few. Helium balloons and open flames are prohibited within the facility and on the grounds. Live plants and other organic materials must be approved by YBIC management before being brought into the facility.

Yes, two YBIC staff will be on-site for the entire duration of your rental.
